Qualification Details

Mexico was the first to secure a Round of 32 spot on June 18. Alongside Mexico, USA and Argentina also qualified early. The remaining teams earned their places by June 27, with Algeria and Austria clinching the last tickets.

How the Round of 32 Works

This phase shifts the tournament into single-elimination mode. No points, no draws—just win or go home. Matches tied after 90 minutes head into a 30-minute extra time. If still deadlocked, penalty shootouts decide who advances.

Every matchup pairs group winners against runners-up or the best third-place teams. Winners move on to the Round of 16, followed by quarterfinals, semifinals, and ultimately the final.

Advancing Through the World Cup

The World Cup begins with 48 teams divided into 14 groups. Each team plays three group matches, earning three points per win, one per draw, none for losses. Ties in points lead to tiebreakers like goal difference.

The top two from each group plus eight of the best third-place teams progress to the knockout stage. From there, every match is do-or-die, leading toward crowning a champion.
