2027 Women’s World Cup: Dates, Hosts, and USWNT’s Chances

The next women’s World Cup is just around the corner, set to start on June 24, 2027. Brazil will host the tournament, marking the first time the event is held in South America. This will be the 10th edition of the global competition.

Where in Brazil Will the Tournament Be Held?

The matches will be spread across several Brazilian cities with top stadiums ready for action:

  • Brasilia - Estadio Nacional
  • Fortaleza - Arena Castelao
  • Porto Alegre - Estadio Beira-Rio
  • Recife - Arena de Pernambuco
  • Rio de Janeiro - Estadio do Maracana

  • Sao Paulo - Arena Itaquera

Does the US Women’s National Team Have a Shot at Winning?

The USWNT stands out as the most successful team in women’s World Cup history, holding four titles. Germany follows with two, and Spain, Japan, and Norway have each claimed the trophy once. The US won consecutive tournaments in 2015 and 2019 but was knocked out earlier than ever before in 2023 during a penalty shootout loss to Sweden.

Despite that setback, the team bounced back by capturing gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Still, they must qualify again to compete for the World Cup title in 2027.

How Will the USWNT Qualify for the 2027 World Cup?

The tournament will feature 32 teams from six confederations. Brazil qualifies automatically as the host nation. The US starts its qualifying journey in November 2025 with a quarterfinal match against El Salvador in the Concacaf W Championship.

Other countries will earn their spots through continental championships or separate qualifiers. Qualification began in February 2025 and will run through February 2027.

So far, 14 teams have secured places, including defending champion Spain. England, last tournament’s runner-up, is still trying to qualify along with many others.

Tournament Format and Upcoming Draw

The size remains unchanged with 32 nations divided into eight groups of four. The top two teams from each group will advance to the knockout stage.

The official group stage draw has not been announced yet but is expected to occur around December 2026 according to US Soccer.
