AC Milan's Tactical Setup Against Lazio: Amorim's 3-4-2-1
AC Milan head back on the road this weekend, still chewing over the late punch they took against Juventus. Two wins, one draw, and now a trip to the capital: Ruben Amorim’s side face Lazio with a clear idea in mind and, increasingly, a clear shape.
Amorim doubles down on his 3-4-2-1
Training at Milanello on Thursday afternoon offered more than just routine preparation. It underlined a conviction. Amorim is set to stick with his trusted 3-4-2-1, the system that has already started to give this Milan a recognisable identity.
Mike Maignan will once again stand in goal with the captain’s armband, the fixed point in a team still being refined. In front of him, Koni De Winter keeps his spot at the heart of the back three, rewarded for his recent performances. Mario Gila and Strahinja Pavlovic are expected to flank him, a blend of aggression and timing that Amorim clearly likes.
Wide battles and midfield dilemmas
Out wide, the picture is sharpening. Samuel Chukwueze is set to start on the right, while on the left Pervis Estupinan currently edges the battle with Davide Bartesaghi. That choice would also push Diego Moreira out of the XI, after he started on the right in Turin. The message is clear: places are earned, not guaranteed.
The real congestion comes in the middle. Yunus Musah is tipped to keep his place, bringing legs and intensity alongside Luka Modric, who remains the technical metronome of the side. That pairing has the edge over Ardon Jashari for now.
But there is a twist on the board. Adrien Rabiot is not locked into one role. There remains a scenario in which he drops into the double pivot, with Ruben Loftus-Cheek stepping in as the central playmaker behind the striker. For the moment, though, the expectation is different: Rabiot should continue as the right-sided attacking midfielder, operating higher up the pitch.
On the opposite flank, Alphadjo Cisse is set to be rewarded. His goal against Juventus did more than rescue a point; it likely secured his return to the starting line-up on the left of the two attacking midfielders.
Ramos leads, Pulisic waits
Up front, there is no debate. Goncalo Ramos will lead the line again, the reference point around which Amorim wants his attacking pieces to revolve.
Behind him, one name looms on the bench. Christian Pulisic is expected to get his first minutes of the season as a substitute, a potentially significant weapon to unleash in the second half if the game tightens in Rome.
