Al-Nassr Pursues Perfect Start Against Al-Taawoun

Ange Postecoglou has shown his hand. The Al-Nassr coach has named an aggressive, star-laden line-up for Friday night’s Roshn League clash with Al-Taawoun, as his side hunt a fourth win from four and look to keep their perfect start alive.

Nine points from three games have Al-Nassr moving with purpose. The tone of their season so far was set in that wild 3-2 win over Al-Ettifaq, a match they finished with 10 men but still found a way to drag over the line. That comeback has sharpened belief inside the dressing room – and Postecoglou’s selection reflects it.

Al-Aqidi steps back in

There is one enforced change in goal. Nawaf Al-Aqidi returns between the posts for the first time this season, stepping in for Brazilian keeper Bento Matheus, who is suspended after his red card against Al-Ettifaq. It is a big night for Al-Aqidi, dropped back into the heat of a title chase with no easing-in period.

In front of him, Postecoglou sticks with a familiar defensive base:

Ronaldo leads a fearsome front line

Up the pitch, the names speak for themselves.

Cristiano Ronaldo starts for the second game running. The Portugal captain led the line from the off against Al-Ettifaq before being withdrawn at half-time, but he keeps his place here and again carries the responsibility of spearheading the attack.

Either side of him, Sadio Mane and Kingsley Coman offer pace, movement and direct threat. It is a front three that would not look out of place in any of Europe’s major leagues, now unleashed on the Roshn League in pursuit of another three points.

Behind them, the creative burden falls on Joao Felix, who impressed in the dramatic turnaround against Al-Ettifaq. He links up with Samu Costa and Angelo Gabriel in midfield, a trio tasked with controlling tempo and feeding the runners ahead of them.

Postecoglou has made no secret of his intent: keep the winning run going, keep the standards high, and keep the table looking perfect. Al-Taawoun arrive as a genuine examination of those ambitions, a fixture that can quickly expose any complacency.

But Al-Nassr walk into it with serious firepower. Ronaldo, Mane and Coman up top, Joao Felix pulling strings behind them, and a side already hardened by a comeback with 10 men.
