According to Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona have been exploring the possibility of a sale in the final weeks of the window, but only a “big proposal” from a top club would tempt them into a deal before deadline day. Until that arrives, if it arrives at all, the ball is in the club’s court.
United circle as Barca weigh their options
Manchester United are among the clubs who tested the waters. After accepting that Lewis Hall is untouchable at Newcastle United, INEOS shifted their search for a left-back and sounded out Barcelona over Balde’s situation.
On paper, the fit is obvious. Balde is 22, already seasoned in La Liga and the Champions League, and comfortable at the very highest level. United need reliable cover and competition for Luke Shaw. The profile matches. The finances do not.
Reports indicate United could only realistically pursue a loan at this stage of the summer. Their heavy midfield rebuild — £148 million paid up front — has squeezed room for major spending in other areas. For Barcelona, who would only consider a “big proposal”, a temporary deal makes little sense.

Every day lost makes that more complicated.
