Alyssa Thompson Named Player of the Match in Chelsea's 3-0 Victory

Alyssa Thompson has been voted Player of the Match after a relentless display in Chelsea’s 3-0 win in Sydney, closing out the club’s pre-season tour of New Zealand and Australia with a flourish.

The USA international was involved in the first two goals of the night, driving Chelsea forward and repeatedly stretching the Sydney defence. Sandy Baltimore struck the opener, Sjoeke Nusken added the second, and Thompson’s fingerprints were all over both moves as she tormented the hosts from the front.

The pressure never really eased. Thompson stayed on the front foot, constantly probing, constantly running at defenders, setting the tone for a dominant attacking performance that wrapped up the tour in style.

The post-match vote on the Chelsea Official App reflected just how tight the race for the award was. Thompson edged it with 29 per cent, narrowly beating goalscorer Baltimore on 27 per cent, while Lexi Potter – who coolly finished Chelsea’s third – claimed 23 per cent.

A fine night for Chelsea. A standout one for Alyssa Thompson.
