Anthony Martial Nears Move to Málaga CF

Anthony Martial is closing in on a surprise move to Málaga CF, with the Spanish club pushing to sign the 30-year-old forward as a free agent, according to Foot Mercato.

Currently sitting 18th in La Liga and fighting to drag themselves out of trouble, Málaga are offering Martial something he has been searching for since leaving CF Monterrey: a fresh start and a central role in a real project, not just a lucrative stopover.

The former Manchester United striker has been without a club since his contract in Mexico was terminated and has been weighing up his next step carefully. Two approaches from Ligue 1 sides arrived on his table, but he turned them down, opting instead to move his career to Spain and gamble on a club in need of his talent and experience.

The interest did not stop in Europe. Al-Ittihad Tripoli, newly boosted by the signing of Moroccan winger Sofiane Boufal, tried to lure Martial to Libya with a staggering financial package. Their offer underlined just how determined they were: a net salary of 10 million euros over two years and a signing-on bonus of 5 million euros.

That kind of money turns most heads. Martial still said no.

He is reported to have rejected the proposal in favour of what he sees as a genuine sporting project, prioritising the chance to rebuild himself on the pitch over the security of an astronomical contract.
