Arsenal Initiates Talks with Galatasaray Over Squad Sales
Arsenal have opened the door to Galatasaray over a series of potential squad exits, with senior and emerging names both put on the table in the current transfer window.
Gabriel Martinelli and highly rated youngster Ethan Nwaneri are among the players Arsenal are understood to have invited offers for as they explore ways to reshape Mikel Arteta’s options and raise funds.
The headline interest centres on Martinelli. Galatasaray have made a verbal proposal worth around €45m (£38.5m) for the Brazil international, a figure that reflects both his age and his Premier League pedigree.
The move, though, is far from straightforward. Sources indicate there is reluctance from the 25-year-old to swap north London for Istanbul at this stage of his career, despite the size of the Turkish club and the prospect of regular Champions League football.
Talks between the two clubs have not been limited to Arsenal’s outgoing business. During discussions, the future of Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen is also understood to have come up, adding another layer of intrigue to a negotiation already laced with big names and big numbers. The conversations around Osimhen are at the exploratory stage, but his situation clearly sits in the background of these meetings.
Martinelli’s name has been circulating across Europe this summer. Paris St-Germain showed tentative interest in recent weeks as they scan the market for attacking reinforcements, yet the French champions have now turned their attention to other targets, leaving Galatasaray as the most concrete suitor so far.
For Arsenal, the talks with the Turkish champions underline a willingness to listen to offers for players who once felt central to the project. Whether that hardens into an actual sale may depend less on the money on the table and more on whether Martinelli can be convinced that his next big step should lead away from the Emirates.
