Arsenal Targets Liverpool Starlet Vincent Joseph for Youth Development
Arsenal are poised to raid Liverpool’s academy, having reached an agreement to sign highly rated teenage striker Vincent Joseph this summer.
The Premier League champions have an agreement in place with the 16-year-old England youth international, according to The Athletic, leaving the two clubs to thrash out a compensation package for the forward.
This is not a headline deal for the first team. It might prove just as significant.
Arsenal’s champions keep building
Fresh from lifting the Premier League title, Mikel Arteta’s side are not easing off. The investment drive at Arsenal has stretched well beyond the senior squad, with the club aggressively targeting some of the country’s best young talent to deepen the pipeline into the first team.
Joseph is the latest name on that list. A prolific presence for England’s under-16s, he has hit eight goals in nine appearances at that level and already stepped up to feature for Liverpool’s under-18s in the Premier League.
Arsenal have moved quickly after his schoolboy registration at Anfield expired this summer. Joseph did not sign scholarship terms with Liverpool, leaving him free to negotiate with other clubs, and Arsenal have pounced.
Liverpool rebuild while losing a gem
Liverpool, under Andoni Iraola, have been busy reshaping their squad as they try to close the gap on Arsenal at the top of the table.
The Reds have already brought in Spanish winger Victor Munoz and French centre-back Jeremy Jacquet, with a move for Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola also under discussion. It is a clear attempt to inject fresh energy and talent into the squad.
Yet as the first team evolves, one of the club’s brightest young forwards is edging towards the exit.
Losing a player of Joseph’s potential at 16 will sting, particularly given his international record and the time Liverpool have already invested in his development.

For now, the deal rests on one key question: how much will Arsenal have to pay?
Because Joseph is under 24 and has not signed a first professional contract, his move falls under the standard compensation rules. The two clubs are negotiating a fee, but if they cannot agree, the case will go to a tribunal.
The Professional Football Compensation Committee would then set the amount. In doing so, it would weigh several factors: Joseph’s age, his playing record so far, how long he has been at Liverpool, the status and category of both clubs, and the financial terms each side put on the table.
It is a familiar process in English football, but one that often shapes how aggressively big clubs move for emerging talent.
