Arsenal have moved ahead of their Premier League rivals to land highly rated teenage forward Vincent Joseph from Liverpool, with the London club also weighing up a blockbuster move for a senior No 9.

Joseph, just 16, has been one of the most talked‑about prospects in Liverpool’s academy. A natural striker who can also drop into the No 10 role, he has been “scoring freely” for the Reds’ youth sides for several years, according to Anfield Insights.
Liverpool briefly fast‑tracked him to their U18s last season. He responded like a player in a hurry: three goals in his first two appearances at that level. His form has travelled with him onto the international stage as well, with eight goals in nine outings for England U16s. He remains eligible for Germany, but England have had the early benefit of his finishing.
Manchester United were linked with a surprise move for Joseph back in March. That story has taken a sharp turn. It is Arsenal who have stepped in and, crucially, closed the deal.
As reported by The Athletic, Joseph allowed his schoolboy contract at Liverpool to run down and chose not to sign scholarship terms with the club. That decision opened the door. Arsenal walked through it. Mikel Arteta’s side are understood to have reached an agreement with the youngster, and the two clubs are now in talks over a compensation package.
If they cannot settle on a figure, the case will go to a tribunal. Under the Professional Football Compensation Committee (PFCC) rules, that process kicks in when a player under 24 switches clubs before signing a first professional contract or at the end of such a deal.
The PFCC will weigh up several factors: Joseph’s age, his playing record, how long he spent in Liverpool’s system, the status of both clubs and the contract terms each side put on the table. Only then will a final fee be set.
Inside Arsenal, there is a sense they may have picked up a future jewel. Joseph has previously drawn comparisons with Jamal Musiala – not in terms of current level, but in style and potential impact between the lines.
Big-game hunting for a new No 9
While Arsenal secure tomorrow’s goals with Joseph, they are also working on today’s. The club want an elite centre-forward to sit alongside, and compete with, the profile of striker represented by Viktor Gyokeres, a long‑standing target.
Contact remains open with Julian Alvarez. Arsenal are keeping the Manchester City forward in their sights, but the Argentine is understood to prefer a move to Barcelona, which complicates any North London push.
So attention has also swung towards Victor Osimhen. According to The Telegraph, Arsenal and Galatasaray discussed the Napoli striker during conversations over Gabriel Martinelli and Ethan Nwaneri. Those talks did not immediately trigger a bid, but they underlined Arsenal’s interest in a genuine headline signing through the middle.
Sources indicate Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United have all held internal discussions about whether to move for Osimhen, amid suggestions his valuation has dropped below the £100m mark. United, though, have cooled their interest, leaving Arsenal and Spurs with a clearer run if they choose to act.
Any deal would still be huge. Osimhen’s fee remains substantial, even if Galatasaray are now said to be more flexible on the numbers, and the Nigeria international expects a major salary to make the jump to the Premier League.
Alongside that, Arsenal are also described as the club most keen on a Barcelona player, underlining a broader strategy: secure one of Europe’s most coveted senior strikers, while quietly adding one of England’s most exciting teenage forwards.
The question now is not whether Arsenal are building for the future. It is how aggressively they intend to arm that future with world-class firepower.
