Arsenal Pursues Victor Osimhen Amid Summer Transfer Buzz
Arsenal are exploring a blockbuster move for Victor Osimhen in the final weeks of the summer window – a deal that would send a jolt through the Premier League title race.
Mikel Arteta’s need for a ruthless No.9 has not gone away. Gabriel Jesus continues to be linked with an exit from the Emirates, and while Viktor Gyokeres showed enough during last season’s title-winning campaign to hint he could grow into a 20-goal-a-season striker, Arsenal are clearly hunting a more proven, explosive finisher.
Gyokeres hit 21 goals in 55 games in all competitions, a solid return. But Arsenal are thinking bigger.
Osimhen enters the frame
The club have long been flirting with the idea of prising Julian Alvarez away from Atletico Madrid. That pursuit has hit a wall. Atletico have dug in, rebuffing interest from Real Madrid and rejecting a €100m (£86.7m) bid from Barcelona. Arsenal, like everyone else, are finding the door firmly shut.
So attention has swung to a different kind of predator.
According to The Telegraph, Arsenal have held talks over Victor Osimhen with Galatasaray, with the Nigerian forward’s name coming up during wider discussions involving Gabriel Martinelli and Ethan Nwaneri. Osimhen has already been offered around north London once this summer, with Tottenham also made aware of his availability.
This is not the first time the Premier League has come calling for him. Two years ago, Chelsea held advanced talks to sign the striker from Napoli, only for the move to collapse. Instead, Osimhen headed to Galatasaray on an initial loan, before the Turkish champions made the deal permanent last summer for €75m (£64.8m).
It has proved money well spent. Osimhen has powered Galatasaray to back-to-back league titles, smashing 59 goals in 74 appearances and confirming his status as one of Europe’s most prolific centre-forwards. Across his club career, he has 173 goals in 297 games – elite numbers by any standard.
Now, Arsenal are back at the table.
Galatasaray talks open a door
The potential deal is wrapped up in a complex web of negotiations between the two clubs.
Galatasaray are keen on Gabriel Martinelli and have already lodged a €45m (£38.4m) bid for the Brazilian. That move is far from straightforward. Martinelli is reported to be unconvinced about a switch to the Turkish Super Lig, and his reluctance could slow or even block that particular avenue.
Arsenal have also put Ethan Nwaneri on the agenda. The 19-year-old, who impressed on loan at Marseille last season, has been offered to Galatasaray for €40m (£34.1m), with talks said to be progressing between the clubs over his future.
Inside those broader conversations, Osimhen’s name has surfaced. Two years ago, Arsenal turned down the chance to move for him, wary of the fee Napoli would demand. This time, the landscape looks different. Galatasaray’s interest in Martinelli and Nwaneri gives Arsenal leverage they did not have before.
The Nigerian, for his part, is understood to be open to a move to north London. With Arsenal’s sporting operation under Andrea Berta pushing to land a top-tier striker, the possibility of Osimhen leading the line at the Emirates is no longer fantasy.
If Arsenal pull this off, the champions won’t just be filling a gap up front. They’ll be arming themselves with one of Europe’s deadliest finishers – and asking an uncomfortable question of every rival with title ambitions.
