Arsenal appear poised to beat Liverpool in the race for PSG winger Bradley Barcola, after securing a £75 million deal for midfielder Bruno Guimaraes. The Gunners have made three summer signings so far, with manager Mikel Arteta eager to further strengthen his squad’s attacking options.
Strengthening the Squad
The Brazilian midfielder Guimaraes officially joined Arsenal from Newcastle United, becoming the club’s third signing this transfer window following winger Christos Tzolis and goalkeeper Illan Meslier. After missing out on Vinicius Junior, who extended his contract at Real Madrid, and selling Leandro Trossard to Besiktas, Arsenal are now focused on recruiting PSG’s Barcola to enhance their frontline.
Preference for London Over Liverpool
Liverpool have also targeted Barcola, submitting a £100 million offer. Yet PSG demands closer to £150 million for the two-time Champions League winner. Former Arsenal forward Perry Groves told talkSPORT that Barcola might favor moving to London rather than joining Liverpool, which is undergoing a transition under new manager Andoni Iraola.
"I’d say the Gooners because Liverpool are a team in transition," Groves explained. "If you were Barcola considering chances of winning the Premier League or Champions League, you'd probably pick Arsenal."
Groves added, "I’ve got a source saying Barcola wants to live in London. He would be very good for Arsenal."
Support From Former Players
Ex-Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong also backs the club’s pursuit of Barcola, emphasizing the need to keep strengthening after last season’s Premier League triumph. Speaking to Ladbrokes, he highlighted the importance of sustaining success by reinforcing key positions.
"Mikel and the boys finally got it over the line, but they shouldn't settle for just one title," Frimpong said. "We need a couple of wingers and a proper number eight. Bruno Guimaraes and Bradley Barcola would make a great summer for Arsenal."
