Arteta Signs Improved Long-Term Deal with Arsenal

Mikel Arteta has agreed a new, improved contract with Premier League champions Arsenal, tying his future to the club he has reshaped since 2019.

The Spaniard’s existing deal was due to run out at the end of this season, a ticking clock that had hovered in the background while Arsenal pushed on under his watch. Negotiations have been running for months, with BBC Sport revealing earlier in September that all sides were close to an agreement.

Now that agreement is in place. Arteta has reached a final deal with the club’s hierarchy to extend his stay in north London, underlining Arsenal’s faith in the 42-year-old as the figurehead of their project.

The exact length of the contract has not been confirmed, but it is expected to carry him into at least his 10th year at the club. Arteta first walked back through the doors at Arsenal as head coach in December 2019; by the time this new deal runs its course, he will have spent a decade trying to drag the club back to the top — and, crucially, keeping them there.

The commitment is backed by a significant financial upgrade. Arteta’s new terms include a sharp rise on his current £10m-a-year salary, plus up to £5m in bonuses, reflecting his status as a title-winning manager in English football’s most lucrative era.
