Barcelona Shuts Down Lukeba and Inacio Rumors in Left-Back Search
Barcelona’s search for a left-footed centre-back has taken a sharp swerve, and two of the most talked-about names are now officially off the table.
Matteo Moretto has made it clear: Castello Lukeba and Goncalo Inacio are not the players Barça are working to sign.
Lukeba talk shut down
For weeks, Lukeba felt like the obvious fit. Left-footed, already on Barcelona’s radar, and admired by Hansi Flick for his ability to play both at centre-back and left-back. The RB Leipzig defender ticked every tactical box and naturally slid into the rumour mill once it emerged that the club wanted a specialist left-footer at the back.
But that narrative has been cut short.
According to Moretto, Barcelona are not negotiating for Lukeba. He has ruled out the Frenchman’s profile “100%”, ending the idea that the 23-year-old is the mystery defender being lined up for Flick.
It’s not a question of quality. Lukeba would have brought versatility, cover across the defensive line and the natural left-sided balance the squad currently lacks. On paper, he looked like a textbook Barça signing.
Yet the club’s real target lies elsewhere.
Inacio also off the list
The same fate has met Goncalo Inacio.
The Sporting CP defender has regularly been mentioned as another solution to Barcelona’s left-footed problem, a rising Portuguese international with strong pedigree and a growing reputation in Europe.
But Moretto’s latest information rules him out as well. Inacio, like Lukeba, is not the player Barça are actively working to bring in.
This is where the story gets more intriguing.
A quieter, less obvious signing
The key detail from Moretto is not who Barcelona don’t want, but the profile of the player they do.
The defender they are targeting does not play in Spain. He is also, according to the journalist, less well known than both Lukeba and Inacio – not a headline name, not someone casual fans would instantly recognise.
That explains the silence. There has been little concrete speculation, few leaks, and no clear front-runner in the media. Barcelona’s sporting department appear determined to keep this operation in the shadows while they work on a lower-profile, more discreet signing.
The objective remains the same: give Hansi Flick a natural left-footed centre-back and another specialist option to reshape his back line.
The route to get there, though, is no longer running through the obvious stars. Barcelona have turned away from the familiar names. The real question now is which lesser-known defender is about to be handed one of the most demanding roles in European football.
