Basil Tuma Named in Malta Squad

Aldershot Town winger Basil Tuma has been named in Malta’s provisional 29-man squad as his rapid international journey gathers pace.

The 21-year-old only arrived at the EBB Stadium in the summer from Reading, but he has wasted no time making an impression. Eight appearances into his Aldershot career, he has helped drive the Shots into eighth place, with 15 points on the board and a growing sense of momentum.

Tuma’s path to this point has been anything but straightforward. Born in Uganda, he first pulled on national colours for his home country at the 2020 CECAFA Under-17 Championship. Two years later, in September 2022, Malta came calling at Under-19 level, opening the door to a new chapter in his international career.

That door is now firmly open. He made his senior debut for Malta in October 2024, coming on at half-time and immediately changing the game by winning a penalty. Since that breakthrough, he has added seven more caps, steadily establishing himself as part of the setup.

Upcoming Fixtures

Now comes another important window. Malta face a demanding run of three UEFA Nations League fixtures in the next two weeks, starting with a trip to Andorra on 24 September. After that, they return home to host Liechtenstein in a friendly on 27 September, a brief change of pace before the competitive action resumes.

Gibraltar visit Malta on 1 October in the second Nations League tie of the period, before the schedule closes with the return match against Andorra on home soil on 4 October.

For Tuma, it is another chance to turn club form into international influence – and to show just how far a summer move to Aldershot can carry a young winger with his trajectory.
