Bayern Munich's Dilemma: Pursuing Barcola or Gordon for €90m
Paris Saint-Germain have named their price. €90 million for Bradley Barcola — take it or leave it. Bayern Munich, for now, are leaving it.
The German champions know this market well. They were in for Barcola last summer, along with several other elite clubs, only for PSG to slam the door. Bayern pivoted and brought in Luis Díaz from Liverpool for around €70 million, a move that has already reshaped their attack and looks like one of the smartest deals of their recent history.
Yet even with Díaz on board, the search in Munich hasn’t stopped. Bayern want another forward who can play across the line, stretch defences, and live between the lines when needed. The profile is clear: pace, versatility, end product.
That description fits Anthony Gordon as neatly as anyone.
Gordon, Diomande… and Barcola in the Background
Newcastle United’s Gordon has been heavily linked with Bayern. The England international is understood to be open to leaving St James’ Park and would offer a different dynamic option in the final third. In theory, he could operate off either flank or tuck in behind Luka Jović and Harry Kane, giving Bayern a flexible front four.
Inside Säbener Straße, though, there is another name at the top of the list. According to The Athletic, RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande is currently viewed as Bayern’s number-one attacking target. That internal ranking matters. It shapes who they push hardest for, and who becomes a luxury rather than a priority.
Which brings the story back to Barcola.
Barcola’s Frustration in Paris
At 23, Barcola is stuck in a role no ambitious forward wants: impact substitute, rarely trusted from the start. In Paris, he has become the classic “Plan B” — good enough to be used, not yet valued enough to be built around.
His frustration has been clear. Barcola is said to be deeply unhappy with his status at PSG, a feeling that only hardened during the Champions League semi-final against Bayern. He was sent on twice in the closing stages, asked to chase a tie rather than shape it.
The contract situation gives PSG all the leverage. Barcola is tied down until 2028, so the French champions face no sporting or financial pressure to cash in next summer. They can simply wait, unless the player forces the issue. That possibility is very real: he is reported to have already turned down a contract extension months ago.
A Market Wakes Up
The numbers explain why so many clubs are circling.
After a standout 2024/25 season in which he produced 40 goal contributions in 58 appearances, Barcola has still found a way to register 12 goals and 7 assists this term despite limited minutes. That kind of productivity from the bench is rare at the top level. It also makes him expensive.
According to Sky, several major clubs are monitoring his situation closely. Talks are already underway between his camp and a string of European heavyweights. FC Barcelona, Liverpool and Arsenal are all among the suitors, with Arsenal in particular reported to have intensified their interest.
For Premier League sides, PSG’s €90m valuation is a hurdle, not a wall. The asking price is not considered a deal-breaker in England, where top clubs have grown used to paying a premium for prime-age attacking talent.
PSG, though, are still waiting. Despite the noise, no formal bid has landed on their desk.
Bayern’s Choice
So Bayern stand at a familiar crossroads. They admire Barcola. They know his ceiling. They also know PSG are holding firm at €90m while they themselves weigh Gordon, Diomande and other options in a summer window that will shape the next phase of their attack.
One winger has already transformed their front line. The next one — whoever he is — could decide how long they stay on Europe’s top tier.
