Bristol City’s Resilience Shines in 1-0 Victory Over Watford

Michael Skubala hailed Bristol City’s resilience after they ground out a 1-0 win over Watford, describing it as a performance built on character and togetherness.

Coming off the back of two straight defeats, City could easily have tightened up, played safe, and waited for something to fall their way. Instead, Skubala saw a group willing to step into the game again.

"I'm really proud of the boys, it's not easy to go off two losses and to bounce back," he told BBC Radio Bristol, his satisfaction clear. He pointed to “some good moments” and “real character” both in how they defended and how they attacked the game.

This wasn’t a win carried by the usual core, either. Skubala shuffled his pack, leaning on players who have barely featured in recent weeks. They responded.

"Lots of changes for the lads that haven't played many minutes – I thought they showed today as a good group, a true group and a squad," he said. For a manager trying to build depth and trust across the dressing room, this felt like an important step.

Skubala stressed how much he will need that wider squad as the season wears on.

"We have to be proud of the guys, who have come in and put a performance in, who haven't had so many minutes but we're going to need them all."

The clean sheet mattered almost as much as the three points. City have been too loose at times this season; this time, they held firm.

"The lads were challenged with getting a clean sheet because we haven't had enough of them," Skubala added. "So I'm really proud of that because it just shows the growth we're going through."

One win, one shut-out – and, in Skubala’s eyes, a squad starting to look like exactly that.
