Bruno Guimaraes Joins Arsenal's Dynasty Plan
Bruno Guimaraes has walked into Arsenal at full speed and straight into Mikel Arteta’s grand plan.
Not just a title defence. A dynasty.
Fresh from a ruthless 3-0 dismantling of Manchester City in the Community Shield, Arsenal repeated the scoreline on opening night, sweeping aside newly promoted Coventry at the Emirates Stadium to begin their Premier League title defence with a statement.
Guimaraes, though, had to watch it all from the sidelines.
A £75m pillar for Arteta’s project
The Brazilian, a £75million signing from Newcastle, missed what should have been his home debut on Friday because of a groin problem picked up in the win over City in Cardiff. City were beaten 3-0 there as well, outplayed and outpowered by a side that looks in no mood to treat last season’s triumph as a one-off.
From the moment Arteta made his pitch, Guimaraes sensed this was bigger than just another move.
“Since the first time I spoke to him, he wants to make a dynasty here, trying to win everything as possible and I am always very excited of his idea,” he told the Men In Blazers network on YouTube.
That word – dynasty – is not thrown around lightly in English football. But it sums up the ambition at Arsenal right now: not just to win, but to keep winning.
Settling in, buying in
Guimaraes admits he is still feeling his way into the club and the dressing room.
“Everything is very new for me, and I am just trying to get used to the players, to the manager, to the staff, the way he works,” he said. “I can say that I am still finding my best way in the group, but I love it here.”
He arrives into a midfield already regarded as one of the most formidable in the league, yet he sounds less concerned about status and more about service.
“I can play every position in the midfield, but this just depends on Mikel’s ideas,” he explained. “He said to me that I can play everywhere, and I said yes, it just depends on you and where he wanted me to play. I am just ready to play for Arsenal, no matter where.”
It’s the kind of flexibility Arteta craves. A player who can sit, press, create – and do it in different zones without complaint.
No ceiling, no targets
If the club hierarchy and manager talk about dynasties, Guimaraes talks about trophies.
“I don’t have like one target – we go for everything. I think the potential we have in this team is unbelievable,” he said.
He does not want to pin the season to one competition or a specific finish.
“I don’t want to put targets, we need to think game again and let’s see how far we can go, but with this team, I have a big chance of winning trophies.”
Game by game, but with a very clear destination in mind.
Villa away and a familiar face
Next up is a trip to Aston Villa on Monday night, another early test of Arsenal’s authority. Waiting there could be a familiar face in different colours.
England defender Ezri Konsa, who left Villa in a £51m move last week, may be in contention to face his former club. His inclusion would add a sharp edge to an already intriguing fixture.
While Guimaraes waits to make his first appearance at the Emirates, another Brazilian at Arsenal appears to be nearing the exit.
Gabriel Martinelli, left out against Manchester City and again against Coventry, is reportedly closing in on a move to Saudi Arabia with Al Hilal. If that deal goes through, one Brazilian will depart as another steps into the heart of Arteta’s evolving machine.
Arsenal talk about building a dynasty. The pieces are moving quickly.
