The Bundesliga weekend brings storylines everywhere you look: Dortmund’s perfect start on the line in Stuttgart, Freiburg trying to stay top in Frankfurt, a crisis brewing in Hamburg, and a managerless Gladbach already staring at trouble.

Here’s how Saturday could unfold.

Werder Bremen vs Augsburg (Saturday, 2:30pm)

Weserstadion has its bite back. Werder Bremen look a very different proposition from last season and can make it three wins in five if they get it right against an Augsburg side quietly putting together one of the most assured starts in the league.

Eintracht Frankfurt vs Freiburg (Saturday, 2:30pm)

Goals feel almost guaranteed here. Both sides have carried a serious threat in the final third, and neither has looked particularly interested in a cautious, low-risk approach.

That attacking freedom exposes Frankfurt’s biggest flaw. They have looked far more vulnerable defensively than Freiburg, leaving gaps that a confident league leader is well equipped to exploit. Over an open, stretched contest, that difference at the back could decide it.

Hamburger SV vs FC Koln (Saturday, 2:30pm)

Volksparkstadion hosts a meeting between two clubs chasing stability, but only one of them is staring at an early-season nightmare.

Hamburger SV have lost all three of their Bundesliga games. No goals scored. Twelve conceded. Bottom of the table on goal difference, even below struggling Borussia Monchengladbach. Merlin Polzin’s side now face the grim prospect of becoming the first team this campaign to go an entire month of league action without finding the net.

Koln had their own concerns a week ago, bracing for the trip without two major attacking weapons. The picture has shifted slightly: El Mala is fit to start, while Dallinga remains out, leaving Ache to lead the line. That changes the dynamic – more direct, more physical, but without the Dutch striker’s impact off the bench.

HSV’s desperation, and the backing of their home crowd, make them dangerous. One goal could crack the tension wide open. Yet Koln’s control in midfield through Skhiri and Krauss, combined with El Mala’s pace against a defence shipping more than four goals a game, tilts the balance towards the visitors.

Prediction: Hamburger SV 0–1 FC Koln

Stuttgart vs Borussia Dortmund (Saturday, 5:30pm)

The spotlight falls on MHPArena in the evening. Borussia Dortmund have started perfectly: three games, three wins, nine points, sitting second only on goal difference. Stuttgart, in 14th with three points, are already fighting to keep their season from drifting.

This is where Dortmund’s title credentials get a proper examination. Their defensive resolve has held up so far, but Stuttgart carry enough attacking threat to ask serious questions. A clean sheet would be a surprise.

The issue for the hosts lies without the ball. Stuttgart have looked disjointed and fragile when defending, leaving too much space and too many gaps for opponents to exploit. Against a Dortmund side that can shift gears quickly and punish mistakes, that is a dangerous flaw to carry into a 90-minute battle.

Unless Stuttgart tighten up dramatically, it is hard to see them taking anything from this one.
