Carlos Queiroz Returns as Ghana Head Coach Weeks After Resigning
Carlos Queiroz has made an unexpected comeback as head coach of Ghana less than two months after resigning following their World Cup exit. The 73-year-old initially left his post in July but is now set to guide the Black Stars during this month’s international fixtures.
Surprise Reappointment
Queiroz’s first tenure with Ghana lasted under three months after he was appointed in April to replace Otto Addo. Despite announcing his departure after the World Cup, he has quickly returned to take charge again, much to the surprise of many followers.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) officially confirmed Queiroz’s return on Thursday, expressing full confidence in his ability to advance the team. A statement from the GFA highlighted his vast international experience and deep knowledge of the Black Stars as key reasons behind the decision.
"The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is pleased to announce that it has reached an agreement with Carlos Queiroz for his appointment as Head Coach of the Black Stars for the next phase of the team’s programme," the statement read."The GFA believes Queiroz’s extensive international experience, technical expertise and knowledge of the Black Stars position him strongly to lead the team into this next chapter."

A Veteran of International Football
Queiroz has coached nine different national teams throughout his career, including Iran in three consecutive World Cups and Portugal, which he led to the last 16 in 2010. His resume also includes stints with South Africa, the United Arab Emirates, Colombia, Egypt, Qatar, and Oman.
During his brief first spell with Ghana, he managed a dramatic 1-0 group-stage victory over Panama, thanks to a stoppage-time goal by Caleb Yirenkyi. This was followed by a goalless draw against England and a narrow 2-1 loss to Croatia.
At club level, Queiroz served as Sir Alex Ferguson’s trusted assistant at Manchester United, contributing to three Premier League titles and the 2008 Champions League win. He also had a notable season as head coach of Real Madrid in 2003-04.
