Chelsea's Deadline for Enzo Fernandez Amid Transfer Frenzy
Chelsea draw a line in the sand over Enzo Fernandez, Manchester City juggle exits and arrivals, Arsenal weigh up a shock move in attack, and Liverpool sit tight over the window’s most expensive winger. The final days of this window are starting to feel frantic.

Chelsea have told Manchester City: pay up or walk away.
The London club have set a 5pm deadline today for City to lodge a formal bid for Enzo Fernandez and made it clear the price is non-negotiable – £120m for the Argentina international or no deal.
Enzo Maresca wants Fernandez at the Etihad as City brace for the possibility of losing Rodri, but the Premier League champions had hoped to bring the fee down. That hope is fading fast. Relations between the clubs are already strained after City were ordered to pay Chelsea £17m in compensation when Maresca quit Stamford Bridge for Manchester last season, with Chelsea saying they felt “let down” by the Italian.
Now Chelsea are digging in. The fee. The deadline. Take it or leave it.
Rodri talks rumble on as City’s midfield churn continues
While they wrestle with Chelsea over Fernandez, City’s midfield rebuild is already in motion.
Barcelona are pushing to sign Rodri and have seen a second bid of £55m turned down, according to Sky Sports News. The World Cup winner remains a central figure at the Etihad, but the Catalan club have not gone away and negotiations are ongoing.
At the same time, City are ready to cash in elsewhere. Tijjani Reijnders is set to join Saudi Pro League side Al Qadsiah after a £51m fee was agreed. The Dutch midfielder has accepted personal terms and will leave just a year after arriving from AC Milan for £46.5m, giving City a profit on a player who never fully settled.
His exit follows Nathan Ake’s sale to Fenerbahce and James Trafford’s move to Leeds, taking City’s income from departures this window towards the £100m mark. And they are not done yet.
City are in pole position to sign Lille’s World Cup breakout talent Ayyoub Bouaddi, while Tottenham are closing in on winger Savinho in a £65m deal that would move another young asset out of the Etihad and into the Premier League spotlight.
Spurs push on with Savinho as Romero heads for the exit
Tottenham’s summer under Roberto De Zerbi is starting to look like a full-scale overhaul.
Spurs are moving “in the right direction” on a deal for Savinho, with The Independent’s Miguel Delaney reporting that an agreement worth £65m plus add-ons is getting closer. The Brazilian, signed by City from Troyes in 2024 for just over £30m, is still only 22 and fits the profile of the aggressive, high-tempo wide player De Zerbi craves.
He would join a long list of new arrivals: Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes, Jan Paul van Hecke, Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi, Martin Dubravka and Cole Ramsey have all come through the door in a busy, expensive window. Only Chelsea have outspent Spurs so far in the Premier League.
And there is movement the other way. Atletico Madrid have agreed a deal in principle to sign Cristian Romero, with the package understood to be around £34.2m including add-ons and a 15 per cent sell-on clause. Inter Milan had also been linked with the Argentina defender, but the Spaniards have stepped in and are closing on an agreement, while also working on a move for Djed Spence.
De Zerbi’s squad is changing fast. The spine, the full-backs, the depth out wide. Savinho would be another bold swing.
Arsenal, Martinelli and the Osimhen question
Across north London, Arsenal’s window is far from over.
Mikel Arteta has made it clear the club’s business is still active, and Gabriel Martinelli has suddenly become a live story. Galatasaray have lodged a £38.5m bid for the 25-year-old Brazilian winger, who is top of the Turkish champions’ attacking shortlist, according to Florian Plettenberg.
Arsenal have already moved for Christos Tzolis on the flank and remain linked with Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez and PSG’s Bradley Barcola. But the most eye-catching name in their conversations with Galatasaray is Victor Osimhen.
The Telegraph report that the Nigerian striker’s availability has been raised in talks between the clubs. It is not yet clear whether Arsenal are driving the move or whether Osimhen is being offered into the discussions, but one scenario being floated would see the forward included as part of a package for Martinelli, with a reduced fee on top.
Arsenal want another attacker. Galatasaray want Martinelli. Osimhen sits in the middle of a deal that, if it ever lands, would jolt the Premier League title race.
Liverpool bide their time over Barcola
Liverpool are playing the long game.
Bradley Barcola is high on their list of attacking targets, with the 23-year-old fresh from scoring three goals for France at the World Cup and back in the Paris Saint-Germain squad for Wednesday’s Super Cup clash with Aston Villa in Salzburg.
PSG have set a huge price. The European champions want around €170m (£145m) for the winger, but GiveMeSport’s Ben Jacobs reports that Liverpool believe the fee will drop if PSG bring in one or more forwards before the window shuts. The Reds are prepared to wait, hoping the market forces Paris to soften.
They have already cooled interest in another PSG attacker, Ibrahim Mbaye, because of the cost of signing both players. PSG have moved in midfield, spending €50m on Maghnes Akliouche from Monaco, but they still need a winger or striker before they will even consider lowering the Barcola asking price.
Arsenal are also monitoring Barcola and could yet make a move if they decide to spend big on a wide forward.
For now, Liverpool watch and wait.
PSG keep quiet, but door stays open
On the record, PSG are saying little.
Manager Luis Enrique refused to be drawn on Barcola’s future when asked ahead of the Super Cup, insisting he would not comment on any player individually, calling it “dangerous” to be positive or negative about one member of his squad. He stressed his focus is on the team.
PSG chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi struck a similar note, telling reporters: “We’re working calmly, we don’t talk too much. I can’t say whether he will leave or not. Today, he is a PSG player. We’ll see.”
The message is controlled. The reality is simple: if the right offer lands and the right replacement arrives, Barcola can go.
A window on a knife-edge

Chelsea’s 5pm line over Enzo Fernandez, City’s resistance on Rodri, Arsenal’s flirtation with a blockbuster move for Osimhen, Liverpool’s patience with Barcola – the next few days will decide whether this window just rumbles on, or explodes into something era-defining.
