Chelsea Forward Nicolas Jackson Linked with Aston Villa Transfer
Chelsea are braced to lose one of their main forwards before the transfer window slams shut – and the destination could hand a direct Premier League rival a serious shot in the arm.
Aston Villa, scrambling to plug gaps in a thinning squad, have placed Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson at the very top of their late-window wishlist.
Villa under pressure, Chelsea ready to deal
The final days of the summer window are already tense, but Villa’s position is especially precarious. A stream of departures in recent weeks has stripped Unai Emery’s squad, leaving precious little time to find replacements.
The 4-0 thrashing by Brighton on the opening weekend didn’t just hurt the scoreboard. It turned up the heat in the boardroom and underlined, in brutal fashion, that reinforcements are no longer a luxury but a necessity.
At the heart of the issue is the centre-forward role. According to CaughtOffside, Villa’s primary objective is to secure a striker to step in for Ollie Watkins, who is pushing for a move to the Saudi Pro League. Losing their talisman without a ready-made replacement would be a huge gamble; Villa know it.
They have already tested the market. A bid went in for Crystal Palace forward Jean-Philippe Mateta, but Palace rejected the offer. The Frenchman remains on the radar, yet he is viewed more as a contingency option than the headline act.
€70m move for Jackson gathers pace
The real focus is Jackson. Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna reported this afternoon that Villa have submitted a €70 million bid for the Senegal international and that the player is now “on the verge” of accepting the move.
The structure of the deal is not fully nailed down yet. Both clubs still need to agree the finer points of Jackson’s contract and personal terms, but Villa are understood to have enough flexibility in their wage bill to push the transfer through.
Crucially, Jackson is keen. The prospect of reuniting with Emery – the coach who handed him his first-team debut at Villarreal – is a major pull. The relationship is already there, the trust is already built, and that matters when a player is weighing up a big career call so close to deadline day.
From Chelsea’s perspective, the timing works. A sizeable fee, a willing buyer, and a player open to the move gives them room to reshape their own attacking options and balance the books. For Villa, it is a statement swing at a solution in their most urgent position. For Jackson, it is a chance to become the focal point of a project under a manager who knows exactly how to use him.
All the pieces are aligned. Now it comes down to whether the clock, and the negotiations, play ball.
