Chelsea to Sell Marc Guiu to RB Leipzig

Chelsea have agreed to sell striker Marc Guiu to RB Leipzig, clearing the way for the young Spaniard to swap west London for the Bundesliga.

The 20-year-old is expected to complete a permanent move to Germany, though sources close to the negotiations in Leipzig insist there are still details to finalise before the transfer is officially signed off. The fee remains under wraps, but Guiu has been valued at around £25m — a sharp rise on what Chelsea paid barely a year ago.

Chelsea brought Guiu in from boyhood club Barcelona in 2024 for about £5m, a low-risk punt on a powerful, penalty-box forward with a reputation for ruthless finishing at youth level. His time at Stamford Bridge, though, has never quite settled into a clear storyline.

He featured 29 times for the club, scoring eight goals. Six of those came in one standout campaign: Chelsea’s triumphant run to the Conference League title in 2024-25. On European nights, when rotation kicked in and the stakes suited experimentation, Guiu found rhythm and confidence, offering flashes of the instinct that first drew Chelsea to him.

Domestic opportunities were harder to come by. A short loan spell at Sunderland last season yielded only three appearances and little momentum. By the end of the campaign, it felt as though his Chelsea future was drifting towards a familiar conclusion for many young forwards at elite clubs.

That impression hardened this summer. Guiu trained away from the main first-team group in pre-season, a clear sign from the club that they were preparing for his exit and ready to listen to offers. Leipzig, with their track record of developing young talent and flipping it at a premium, moved into position.

If the deal is completed at the figures discussed, Chelsea will bank a significant profit on a player who never fully established himself in the Premier League but did leave a mark on their recent European success.

There was more movement in the club’s youth and loan department. Midfielder Kendry Paez has been recalled from an unsuccessful stint at River Plate, with Chelsea opting to terminate the Argentine loan early to free up an overseas slot. The plan now is to send him back out, likely on another loan and potentially to a club in England, in search of the regular minutes that eluded him in Buenos Aires.

For Guiu, the next chapter looks set to unfold in Germany. For Chelsea, the churn continues, as another young prospect is cashed in and the squad reshaped once again.
