Como reshape squad: Morata out, Van der Brempt to Sassuolo, Ricci in

Como are cutting and rebuilding in the final days of the window, trimming a swollen squad while trying to sharpen it for a Champions League campaign that suddenly feels very real.

Morata's Departure

The first big move is official: Alvaro Morata has left for Spain. The striker has joined Leganes on loan, with an option to buy at the end of the season, giving Como both breathing space in attack and potential cash down the line if the La Liga side decide to keep him.

Van der Brempt to Sassuolo

On the right flank, Ignace Van der Brempt is also on his way. Multiple Italian outlets, including Sky Sport Italia and Sportitalia, report that Como have agreed a deal with Sassuolo. The Belgian will move on loan with an obligation to buy, in a package worth €6.5m overall. It’s a clear signal from Sassuolo, who had also been tracking Rafik Belghali from Hellas Verona before the winger began leaning towards Torino instead.

Ricci's Arrival

While those doors close, another opens at the training ground. Milan midfielder Samuele Ricci arrived today to undergo his medical, the latest piece in Como’s late-window puzzle.

The deal is structured as a loan worth €1.5m, with an option to make the move permanent at the end of the season for a further €22m plus performance-related bonuses. For Milan, it draws a line under a short and somewhat underwhelming spell. Ricci joined from Torino last summer in a deal worth €23m plus bonuses, but managed only 34 appearances and a single goal in Rossoneri colours.

For Como, though, this is a calculated gamble: lose Morata and Van der Brempt, free up space and salary, and bet big on Ricci’s ability to anchor a midfield that now has European nights on the horizon.
