Cristiano Ronaldo Linked to Al-Nassr Takeover Bid

Portuguese reports have dropped a bombshell over the future of Al-Nassr: a five-man investment consortium is said to be preparing a formal offer to buy the Saudi club from the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) – and Cristiano Ronaldo is right at the heart of it.

The twist is not that Al-Nassr might be sold. It is who is supposedly lining up to buy it.

According to Portuguese newspaper “A Bola”, the group includes Ronaldo, the club’s captain and leading scorer, alongside RedBird Capital chief executive Gerry Cardinale, owner of Italian giants Milan, and three Saudi businessmen: Ibrahim Al-Muhaidib, Mohammed Al-Khereiji and Sharaf Al-Hariri.

If the deal goes through, Ronaldo’s bond with Al-Nassr would move into completely new territory. He would no longer be just the face of the project on the pitch and the club’s global marketing magnet. He would become one of the investors shaping what comes next.

From captain to co-owner?

Ronaldo’s presence in the consortium would give him a far deeper influence over the direction of the club he joined when he moved to the Saudi league, placing him at the centre of sporting and strategic decisions that could define Al-Nassr’s next era.

The consortium is targeting PIF’s controlling stake in the club. That makes the upcoming negotiations a pivotal moment. If PIF agrees to sell, Al-Nassr’s ownership structure would be transformed. If it refuses, the entire project could stall before it truly begins.

“A Bola” reports that the plan on the table is clear: each of the five investors would commit around 100 million dollars. Roughly half a billion dollars in total, earmarked not only for the takeover itself but also to underpin the club’s future operations and ambitions.

Local power, global reach

Behind Ronaldo and Cardinale stand three Saudi figures in Al-Muhaidib, Al-Khereiji and Al-Hariri, bringing both capital and deep roots in the domestic market. Their involvement anchors the project in Saudi Arabia’s rapidly expanding sports landscape.

Cardinale adds a different weight. As the man behind RedBird Capital and the owner of Milan, he brings experience of running a major European club and of football as a global investment platform. His inclusion gives the proposed deal an international edge that stretches far beyond Riyadh.

A decisive meeting with PIF

The process, according to the Portuguese report, is now moving into a fragile phase. Representatives of RedBird and the wider consortium are preparing for a key meeting with officials from the Public Investment Fund in the coming period to discuss the proposed bid in detail.

Everything turns on PIF’s stance. A green light would open the door for ownership of Al-Nassr to pass into private hands led by this five-man group. A refusal could freeze the talks and leave the club’s current structure untouched.

All of this unfolds as Al-Nassr stand at a crossroads, both on the pitch and in the boardroom. The club is pushing to consolidate its sporting project while Saudi football as a whole accelerates its transformation.

If these negotiations harden into a signed agreement, it would rank among the most eye-catching takeovers in Saudi football history – not only for the scale of the money involved, but for the sight of Cristiano Ronaldo stepping from the dressing room into the boardroom, helping to steer the very club he leads on the field.
