Curtis Jones Leaves Liverpool After 16 Years for Inter Milan

Curtis Jones has drawn the curtain on a 16-year Liverpool story, sealing a move to Inter Milan in a deal worth around £30m and bringing to an end one of the club’s longest modern-day associations.

The 25-year-old leaves having grown from academy hopeful to first-team mainstay, making more than 200 appearances, scoring 22 goals and collecting six major trophies, including two Premier League titles. For a boy from the city who walked into the academy with a dream, he walks away as a decorated professional and a father.

From academy kid to title winner

Jones joined Liverpool’s youth ranks as a youngster and rose through the age groups with a reputation for flair and confidence on the ball. He eventually broke into the senior side and became a trusted squad member during one of the most successful eras in the club’s recent history.

Those six major honours – headlined by two league titles – place him in a select group of homegrown players who have not only broken through but stayed long enough to help shape a winning dressing room.

“I came here as a kid… I’m leaving as a man”

The emotion of the departure poured out in a lengthy message to supporters on social media.

“After 16 years, it's time to say goodbye,” Jones wrote. “I came here as a kid with a dream of playing for Liverpool, and I've been lucky enough to actually live that dream.

“This club is all I've ever known. I came here as a kid and I'm leaving as a man with a family of my own, which probably puts into perspective just how much of my life I've spent here.”

He reflected on the milestones that framed his time on Merseyside, on and off the pitch.

“So much has happened during my time here, both on and off the pitch. I've made my debut, won trophies, made memories I'll never forget, and I've become a dad.

“Having my daughter while I've been here makes it even more special because Liverpool isn't just part of my story anymore, it's part of my family's story too.”

Gratitude on the way out

Jones made a point of name-checking almost every corner of the club on his way out: academy staff, coaches, team-mates and the often-unseen figures who keep Anfield ticking.

“To all the lads I've shared a dressing room with over the years, thank you. I've played with some unbelievable players and made friendships I know I'll have for life,” he said.

“Thank you to the fans that stuck by me and always supported me. I will always be one of you.

“Now it's time for a new challenge and a new chapter for me and my family, and I'm excited for what's ahead.

“But Liverpool will always be a massive part of me. I came here as a kid with a dream and I'm leaving having lived it.

“So genuinely, to everyone who has played any part in my 16 years here, thank you. I'll never forget it.

“YNWA.”

A boyhood dream fulfilled, a senior career relaunched in Milan, and a bond with Anfield that will follow him into Serie A.
