Danilo Aims for Final Season at Flamengo

Danilo has made it clear: the end is in sight, and he wants it painted red and black.

Speaking at Flamengo’s Ninho do Urubu training ground, the veteran defender opened up about how international duty had delayed any real reflection on his future and, with it, serious contract talks with the club.

“In 2026, I had very little time to reflect and assess; there was a World Cup in between, and at 35 years old, I had to dedicate myself immensely physically to measure up and be well prepared,” he said, explaining how the demands of the national team left little room for long-term planning.

Only now, he admitted, has he finally found the calm he needed to think clearly about the final chapter of his career.

“Now is when I've had more peace of mind to think about it. Flamengo and I have been talking, and I hope 2027 is the year we can be together so I can play the final year of my career.”

The message was firm: he wants to close the circle at Flamengo.

A former Real Madrid and Manchester City defender with a trophy-laden career in Europe, Danilo underlined that renewal talks with his boyhood club are moving in the right direction. No drama. No stand-off.

He described negotiations as smooth, stressing that both parties are aligned and that there are no obstacles on the table holding up an agreement.

“We have spoken very calmly. Both sides share the desire to move forward, to put together another beautiful year, and a year where I can truly say ‘this is the last year of my career’ and finish at the club of my heart, in a project I believed in and that has been working.”

That “club of my heart” line was not a throwaway. For Danilo, this is about more than one last contract. It is about ending where it all began, with a team he feels is on the right path and a project he openly endorses.

He repeated that confidence when asked if anything could derail the plan.

“I don't think there are any obstacles preventing this from happening, and hopefully in 2027 we can be together, finish my career at Flamengo, and, God willing, win a major trophy – that would be wonderful.”

A final season. A final push for silverware. Danilo has set his target: one last year at Flamengo, and one last shot at a major title before he walks away.
