Djed Spence Edges Closer to Inter Milan Transfer

Djed Spence’s future is edging away from north London – and towards Milan.

The Tottenham full-back, once tipped as a potential target for several Premier League clubs, now has his sights firmly set on Inter Milan, with the Italian giants pushing to get a deal over the line.

Spence has long carried a strong reputation. One admiring voice even went as far as to say: “If it’d be Liverpool then I’d want big money for him. I would want a lot of money for him. They took the boy Joe Gomez, who was a South London boy, but Spence is a better player than him.” High praise. Big expectations.

Arsenal, though, are not at the table. Mikel Arteta’s side have shown no appetite this summer to strengthen in the wide defensive areas, and there has been no concrete sign of a move from the Emirates. Any late swoop from across north London would be a major shock.

Inter, by contrast, are moving with purpose. The player is understood to want the switch to San Siro, and club-to-club talks with Tottenham are under way as the Serie A side look to close an agreement.

Earlier in the window, the two clubs stood apart on valuation. Spurs were holding out for a higher fee and made it clear they would not be pushed into a cut-price sale of the Englishman. The stalemate has started to crack.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter are closing in on Spence, with a deal expected to land at around €30million (£25m) plus bonuses.

That figure sits below the level long suggested as Tottenham’s ideal asking price, but the player’s desire to join Inter appears to be softening their stance.

The pressure of the window, the will of the player, the lure of San Siro – it all points in one direction.

Right now, a transfer anywhere other than Inter looks remote. Circumstances can always change in a market this volatile, and a new suitor could emerge if negotiations were to stall, but the prospect of Spence crossing the north London divide to Arsenal still feels distant.

Unless something dramatic breaks that trajectory, his next chapter looks set to be written in black and blue, not red or white.
