Dom Ballard lit up the Championship with a moment of sheer audacity – then walked off frustrated.

The Bristol City striker produced a goal that belongs in showreels, not in a routine league fixture. Back to goal. Cross arriving from Rio Cardines. One instinctive flick of his heel and the ball rocketed into the top corner, leaving Birmingham stunned and Ashton Gate erupting.

“We are disappointed with the result in the end as I thought we were the better team,” he admitted. “But everyone played their role well today and when you come to a new club, you want to hit the ground running so to get the goal today against a good Birmingham City side is great.”
