Driouech Transfer to Rangers Falls Through

Couhaib Driouech’s switch to Rangers is off. Completely.

After days of talks in Glasgow, the clubs failed to find an agreement, Eindhovens Dagblad reporter Rik Elfrink reported on Friday. The winger, who had already travelled to Scotland to finalise the move, will now head back to PSV.

Fee that could have risen to around €8 million now vanishes.

For PSV, it is a costly collapse. That figure now vanishes, and so does what looked like a straightforward exit for a player on the fringes.

What exactly derailed the transfer remains unclear. No detail yet on where the negotiations broke down, only the outcome: Driouech will not be playing for Rangers and will instead report back in Eindhoven.

It is becoming an uncomfortable pattern. This is the fourth transfer involving PSV to fall through in the space of five months. Ricardo Pepi, Adamo Nagalo and Armando Obispo all saw proposed moves collapse before Driouech joined that list.

The sporting implications are just as awkward. Driouech, 24, has not featured in the opening matches of the season due to injury and, for now, is not expected to play a major role in the first team. His route back into the side looks even more congested.

Inside the club, the focus has quietly shifted to youth. Academy product Amir Bouhamdi has moved ahead of Driouech in the pecking order and is set to sign a new contract at the Philips Stadion, underlining where PSV see their immediate future on the wing.

While the Driouech saga fizzles out, the schedule does not pause. PSV travel to Excelsior on Saturday evening, kicking off at 20:00, still searching for rhythm after being held to a 2-2 draw by Fortuna Sittard last weekend.

The question now is not where Driouech will go, but whether he can still carve out a place in a PSV side that seems ready to move on without him.
