Enzo Fernandez: The Missing Piece for Manchester City

Enzo Fernandez has barely walked through the door at Manchester City, but the noise around him is already deafening – and not just from the stands.

Noel Gallagher, the Oasis frontman and lifelong City die-hard, has thrown his full weight behind the Argentine’s arrival, calling him the missing piece in Pep Guardiola’s midfield.

“Enzo is exactly the player we need,” he said bluntly on Talksport, wasting no time dressing it up.

Gallagher zeroed in on one trait above all: edge. That competitive, confrontational streak City have arguably lacked in the middle of the pitch.

“We’ve been missing that,” he admitted, before reaching for a name that instantly raises the temperature in any football debate: Roy Keane.

“We wanted a player similar to Roy Keane, not to put him on his level, but one who stands up to opponents,” Gallagher explained. The comparison was deliberate. He wasn’t talking about passing angles or heat maps. He was talking about personality, presence, that refusal to back down when the game turns nasty.

For Gallagher, that’s what Enzo brings that others in the squad do not.

He pointed to some of City’s brightest talents and made the contrast clear. “I want that at City, because Phil (Foden) is not going to do it, Elliott Anderson is not going to do it,” he said, convinced that the new signing can become the one who imposes respect in the midfield battle, the one opponents think twice about clattering into.

To Gallagher, Enzo’s signing is not just a tactical tweak. It’s a statement.

The former Benfica and Chelsea midfielder is expected to add intensity on the pitch, but what has really impressed the musician so far is the Argentine’s attitude since landing in Manchester. “I’m happy that he’s here,” Gallagher admitted, before hinting at a particular detail that caught his eye – something in Enzo’s early behaviour around the club that he reads as a clear declaration of intent.

City wanted more bite. Gallagher is convinced they’ve just signed it.
