Ethan Nwaneri Expected to Leave Arsenal Before Transfer Deadline

Ethan Nwaneri is edging towards the Arsenal exit door before the end of the summer window, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that the teenager is now expected to leave the club.

The 19-year-old, long regarded as one of the brightest talents in Arsenal’s academy, has drawn firm interest from the Bundesliga. Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig have both been linked with him in recent months, while AC Milan are also understood to be tracking his situation closely.

On Sunday, the picture grew clearer. Nwaneri was not just on the bench; he was nowhere near the squad as Arsenal swept aside Manchester City 3-0 to lift the Community Shield. For a player once fast-tracked into first-team contention, that omission spoke loudly.

Mikel Arteta had already set the tone before kick-off. Asked about Nwaneri’s future, the Arsenal head coach admitted the club may have to let him go if they cannot offer him the one thing he craves: minutes.

“I want him to be at the club, but in the middle, long term, what is best for the player? Ethan needs to play football, and if he stays here, it's because we can guarantee that he can have those minutes. Otherwise, it's just something that is not good for anybody, I think,” Arteta said.

That is the dilemma. Arsenal want to keep a talent they have nurtured, but the pathway is crowded, the stakes at the top end of the Premier League unforgiving. Nwaneri wants games, not promises.

With the window ticking down and major European clubs circling, the next move in his career now feels less like a question of if, and more a matter of when and where.
