Fabio Vieira Completes Move to Hamburg for 10m Euros

Fabio Vieira has ended his Arsenal spell, completing a permanent move to Hamburg in a deal worth 10m euros (£8.6m) as the German club turn last season’s loan into a full-time stay.

The 26-year-old midfielder, who arrived in north London from Porto in 2022, never fully nailed down a starting role at Emirates Stadium but still clocked 49 appearances across all competitions. His Arsenal career effectively stalled over the past two seasons, first with a return loan to Porto in 2024-25 and then with Hamburg last term, where he rebuilt his confidence and market value.

Hamburg have now committed to him as a central piece of their project, rewarding his impact during the loan spell by moving quickly to secure a permanent transfer.

For Arsenal, Vieira’s exit is another step in a planned clear-out. The club had earmarked him as one of the saleable assets this summer, with forwards Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli also expected to depart on permanent deals as the squad is reshaped again under Mikel Arteta.

While established names head for the door, one of the club’s brightest prospects is set to take his first major step into senior European football. Academy product Ethan Nwaneri is closing in on a loan move to Borussia Dortmund, a club with a proven track record of developing young talent at the highest level.

Arsenal’s midfield is changing face fast. The question now is how quickly the new version can deliver the trophies the old one couldn’t.
