Fenway Sports Group Sells Minority Stake in Liverpool to 1892 Holdings

Fenway Sports Group have confirmed a landmark deal to sell a minority stake in Liverpool to a new investment vehicle, 1892 Holdings, in a move designed to supercharge the club’s long-term growth without loosening FSG’s grip on power at Anfield.

The consortium is led by Amit Bhatia and pulls together heavyweight figures from global business, technology and finance. Behind it sits serious money. The Mittal Family Trusts and K5 Sports are key pillars of the investment, with Jeff Bezos installed as lead investor in the K5 Sports fund. EE Capital, the family office of Elaine and Eduardo Saverin, has also taken a position in the club’s future.

This is not a takeover. FSG will continue to hold majority ownership and retain operational control of Liverpool. The new investors are stepping in as strategic partners rather than would‑be kingmakers, backing a project that has already delivered a Champions League and Premier League title under FSG’s tenure.

The plan is clear: use fresh capital and expertise to widen Liverpool’s horizons, on and off the pitch. The consortium will work closely with FSG and the existing leadership team to hunt for new commercial, technological and sporting opportunities that fit the club’s long-term blueprint.

“Liverpool has always been built by thinking beyond one season and making decisions with the club’s long-term interests in mind,” said FSG president Mike Gordon. “That approach continues to attract interest from respected investors and business leaders around the world.”

Gordon stressed that Bhatia’s group fits seamlessly into that philosophy, not against it. “As we considered this opportunity, it became clear that Amit and the consortium shared our long-term philosophy and appreciation for what makes Liverpool special,” he explained. “Their experience and perspective will complement the strong foundation already in place, and we look forward to working together.”

Bhatia, speaking on behalf of 1892 Holdings, underlined the significance of the move from the consortium’s side. “We are incredibly proud to be investing in Liverpool Football Club and to be doing so alongside FSG,” he said, paying tribute to the Americans’ record. “We have the utmost respect and admiration for FSG as owners and for everything they have achieved at Anfield.”

Behind the scenes, the deal has been stitched together by a cast of high-end advisers. Corestone Capital Advisors brokered the engagement between FSG and 1892 Holdings, while legal and advisory heavyweights including Allen Overy Shearman Sterling LLP and Deloitte helped structure what is described as a complex, high-value transaction.

For now, the agreement is signed but not yet sealed. Completion still depends on regulatory approval and the usual closing conditions. Once those hurdles are cleared, 1892 Holdings will formally step into their role alongside FSG on Merseyside, adding new financial muscle to a project that shows no sign of standing still.
