Ferran Torres Joins PSG After World Cup Glory

Ferran Torres, the man who broke Argentina’s hearts in extra time and delivered Spain a World Cup, is on the move again. This time, to Paris.

The 26-year-old forward has joined European champions Paris St-Germain from Barcelona, signing a contract that runs until 2031. The fee is reported to be around 50m euros (£42.7m) – a figure that reflects a player whose reputation has rocketed over the past year.

World Cup hero heads to the European kings

Torres’ decisive strike against Argentina last month sealed Spain’s second men’s World Cup title and turned him into a national hero. That moment came on the back of a strong campaign at Barcelona, where he scored 21 goals in 49 games in all competitions and added three assists, helping the club reclaim the La Liga crown.

His numbers at international level are just as striking: 25 goals in 65 appearances for Spain. He first broke into the national side under Luis Enrique. Now, the two are reunited in Paris.

PSG, coached by former Barcelona player and manager Luis Enrique, have become the dominant force in Europe. They have lifted the Champions League trophy in each of the past two seasons and, on Wednesday, edged Aston Villa 2-1 to add the Uefa Super Cup to their growing haul.

Into that winning machine steps Torres, a forward who can play across the front line, press aggressively and score in big moments. His familiarity with Enrique’s demands and system gives PSG an immediate tactical shortcut; this is not a signing that needs a long bedding-in period.

Torres arrived at Barcelona in 2022 after a two-year spell at Manchester City. Paris now becomes the latest stop in a career that has already taken in three European giants before his 27th birthday.

Reloading the attack

PSG’s attack is being reshaped again. Torres is the second major forward to walk through the door this summer, following the arrival of Maghnes Akliouche from Monaco. The French champions are clearly intent on refreshing their front line while staying at the top of the European game.

There is, though, a potential twist. Bradley Barcola could leave the club in this window, with Liverpool interested in the forward. If that move materialises, Torres’ role grows even more central, both literally and figuratively.

For now, PSG have added a World Cup match-winner to a squad already stacked with European pedigree. The champions of Europe are not standing still.
