Among the squad, three players stand out as born abroad but chose to represent France.

• Michael Olise was born in London, England, to a French-Algerian mother. Though he has yet to score in the tournament, his five assists showcase his skill. Olise credits French legends like Zidane and Thierry Henry for inspiring him and feels a natural connection to France, where he frequently visited during childhood.
• Marcus Thuram entered the world in Parma, Italy. His father, Lilian Thuram, hails from Guadeloupe, a French territory. Marcus holds dual citizenship but opted for France, likely inspired by his father's legacy and the team’s prospects. He has three goals in 35 appearances.
• Brice Samba was born in Linzolo, Republic of the Congo, and moved to France early. After gaining French citizenship, he chose to play for Les Bleus. Samba has earned four caps so far.

Eligibility Rules for World Cup Teams

To represent a nation at the World Cup, players must meet at least one of these conditions:

• Born in the country or territory
• Have a biological parent born there
• Have a grandparent born there
• Resided in the country for a required number of years

This system allows players to be born in one place but choose another country to play for. That explains why some players like Olise, Thuram, and Samba represent France despite their birthplaces. Likewise, Morocco’s team includes six players born in France who qualify through Moroccan heritage.
