Gabriel Jesus remains at the centre of Napoli’s late-window plans, with Massimiliano Allegri still pushing for the Arsenal forward as his priority striker target.
The Brazilian is now training away from the main Arsenal group, a detail that has only sharpened the sense that his time in north London is edging towards a decision point.
Allegri’s first choice
Napoli are scouring the market for attacking reinforcements in the final stretch of the summer window, weighing up several names. Yet, according to Gianluca Di Marzio, Allegri keeps coming back to one: Gabriel Jesus.
The club are working on parallel options, aware of the time pressure and the complexity of any deal with Arsenal. But inside Napoli, Jesus is viewed as the ideal profile to lead Allegri’s front line.
Whether they can convince the player is another matter.
Arteta explains Jesus’ situation
While negotiations simmer in the background, Jesus’ situation at London Colney has shifted. He is currently training separately from the rest of the squad, something Mikel Arteta addressed when asked.
"It's something to do with the numbers that we have in the squad at the moment and the way we're managing that kind of situation individually with all the players – they have some personal situations," Arteta said.
The Arsenal manager confirmed he has spoken directly with Jesus.
"Yes, for sure (he's spoken to Jesus). Those conversations go both ways, but I'm very satisfied with how these conversations went because I know what is in each other's hearts.
"The words that come through in those conversations make me really happy. It's inevitable at some point you need to have certain discussions and say certain things that sometimes are tough."
The message is calm on the surface, but the context is clear: Arsenal are managing a player whose future is on the table.
Player hesitation, club urgency
Earlier in the window, reports suggested Jesus had shown some hesitation about joining Napoli. There is no clarity yet on whether his stance has softened, hardened, or simply remained in limbo.
For Napoli, the path to Jesus was supposed to open once Romelu Lukaku’s situation was resolved. When Fenerbahce agreed a deal to sign Lukaku from the Italian club, there was a flicker of optimism in Naples that one major outgoing would unlock a major incoming.
The momentum has not quite followed. Talks have dragged, and the expected acceleration has yet to fully materialise.
Arsenal’s last big decision on Jesus
One element is non-negotiable: timing. Jesus’ contract at Arsenal expires next year. That puts the club under pressure. This is effectively their last realistic window to secure a significant fee for the 27-year-old.
Arsenal are understood to be pushing to find a solution in these closing days of the market. Whether that solution wears Napoli blue depends on three moving parts aligning: the fee, the player’s will, and the Italian club’s ability to move quickly.
