Galatasaray Pursues Rafael Leao as Milan Lowers Asking Price

Rafael Leao’s future at Milan is edging towards a decisive break, and Galatasaray have stepped back into the frame.

Multiple outlets in Italy and Turkiye report that the Istanbul giants are once again in active talks with Milan over the Portuguese forward. At this stage, though, there is still no formal, written offer on the table.

Milan’s position has shifted. The club had initially looked for around €50m plus €10m in add-ons, but the lack of concrete bids at that level has forced a rethink. With no club willing to meet that figure, the Rossoneri are now understood to be considering proposals below the €50m mark, with bonuses on top. That change has reopened a door that had seemed firmly closed.

Galatasaray arrive at that door after being knocked back elsewhere. Their €45m offer for Gabriel Martinelli was rejected by Arsenal, who also made it clear that the Brazilian had no intention of moving to Istanbul. With that avenue shut, attention has swung back to Leao.

Reports from Sportitalia and Turkish journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu describe “intensive” discussions between Galatasaray and Milan, as the Turkish champions try to position themselves for a marquee signing in attack.

They are not alone in having tested the waters. Benfica, Fenerbahce and Galatasaray have all sounded out Milan in recent weeks, but none of those approaches progressed to a written bid. The gap between Milan’s valuation and the numbers being floated by suitors was simply too wide.

Now the landscape has changed. A reduced asking price, potentially dipping under €50m plus add-ons, brings negotiations into a more realistic range for clubs outside Europe’s financial elite.

For Leao and Milan, this is not how the script was supposed to read. Once it became clear he was available, both player and club had expected serious moves from heavyweight sides in the top five leagues. Those moves never came. Interest flickered, but nothing materialised into a concrete proposal.

That leaves Milan with a valuable asset running down a contract that expires in June 2028 and no appetite on the player’s side to extend. Inside the club, the conclusion is clear: a sale this summer is no longer just an option, it is the logical outcome.

Whether Galatasaray can now turn renewed talks into the decisive offer Milan have been waiting for will define one of the most intriguing transfer sagas of this window.
