Gattuso Dismisses Icardi Speculation: Loyalty to Current Squad

Gennaro Gattuso has drawn a firm line under the Mauro Icardi rumours, insisting his club will not rip up their plans or their promises to chase a late-market coup.

Speaking before his side’s next league match, the coach was asked again about links to the former Inter captain. This time, he cut the story off at the root.

“Let’s put this whole Icardi mess to rest,” Gattuso said, as quoted by Calciomercato.com. “He has scored 250 goals in his career, and nobody questions his value. We made our choices; we signed [Andrea] Pinamonti and [Albert] Gudmundsson, and when you give your word to players, you can’t go back on it.”

That was the key message: loyalty to the project, and to those already in the dressing room. Icardi’s pedigree is not in doubt. The door, though, is closed.

“With all due respect to Icardi,” Gattuso continued, “I’ve discussed it with the president and the director, and it’s right to stick to what we have.”

The coach then lifted the lid on a more practical problem. Numbers. Too many of them.

“Right now, we already have players who have to sit out training because we have six full-backs,” he pointed out. “When Marusic returns, two of them will have to be left out, and that doesn’t look good.”

The message before the league fixture was unmistakable: no galáctico detours, no late rewrites. Gattuso is backing the squad he has, and the players he shook hands with this summer will have to justify that faith on the pitch.
