Harry Kane Leads Nominees for 2026 Men’s Ballon d’Or in London

Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice will all walk the red carpet in London next month as nominees for the 2026 Men’s Ballon d’Or – with Kane installed as the frontrunner for football’s most coveted individual prize.

The Bayern Munich striker is the bookmakers’ clear favourite for the award, which will be handed out on 26 October at the London Palladium, the first time the ceremony has left Paris for the English capital.

Kane leads the charge

Kane’s case is brutally simple.

• Seventy-three goals in 65 games for club and country.
• Another Bundesliga title in his first season in Germany.
• And the captaincy of an England side that battled its way to a World Cup bronze.

No Englishman has lifted the Ballon d’Or since Michael Owen in 2001. Kane, now 33, has the chance to end a 25-year wait on home soil.

He will not have a clear run at it. Holder Ousmane Dembele is back on the list, joined by Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Lamine Yamal, Rodri and Kylian Mbappe among the heavyweight contenders aiming to deny the England captain.

Premier League power and a missing giant

Rice is one of several current Premier League names in the 30-man shortlist. Bruno Fernandes, Gabriel, Erling Haaland and William Saliba also make the cut, underlining the league’s grip on the game’s elite talent.

Lionel Messi is there again, extending his remarkable presence on Ballon d’Or lists into yet another year.

Cristiano Ronaldo is not.

The Portugal great misses out entirely, a stark marker of how the landscape at the top has shifted.

Yamal tops young talent field

Lamine Yamal’s rise continues at breakneck speed. The teenager headlines the Men’s Young Talent of the Year shortlist, a category that also carries a strong Premier League flavour.

Bournemouth forward Junior Kroupi joins him among the nominees, while Manchester City’s new signing Ayyoub Bouaddi and recent Aston Villa recruit Johan Manzambi are also recognised. Chelsea’s Veerle Buurman is in contention for the women’s young talent accolade.

Arteta and Emery in coaching spotlight

On the touchline, Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta and Aston Villa’s Unai Emery are both shortlisted for Men’s Coach of the Year. They go up against Spain boss Luis De La Fuente, Vincent Kompany and Luis Enrique.

Arteta’s work in transforming Arsenal into title challengers has also been acknowledged at club level, with the Gunners nominated for Men’s Club of the Year.

Vozinha among goalkeeping elite

There is a striking name on the Men’s Goalkeeper of the Year list. Cape Verde star Vozinha is nominated after his standout World Cup performances, a reward for a tournament that pushed him into the global spotlight.

He competes with some of the game’s biggest goalkeeping figures, including Arsenal’s David Raya and Emiliano Martinez, now of Chelsea.

London takes centre stage

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the Ballon d’Or, created by France Football and co-organised with UEFA since 2024. To mark the milestone, the gala has been moved from its traditional Paris home to London as a tribute to the award’s first ever winner, England and Blackpool legend Stanley Matthews.

Seventy years on from Matthews’ triumph, the Ballon d’Or returns to his country.

The stage is set.

Now the question is whether Kane, Bellingham or Rice can make this anniversary night belong to England again.
