Inter Dominates Gran Gala del Calcio as Dimarco Wins Player of the Year
Inter walked into the Gran Gala del Calcio as champions and walked out with the room at their feet. The Nerazzurri were named Serie A Club of the Year, the official stamp on a dominant domestic campaign.
The headline, though, belonged to a local hero.
Federico Dimarco, the left wing-back who has turned the flank into his personal runway, was voted Serie A Player of the Year by his fellow professionals. Recognition from inside the dressing rooms of Italy, not from a committee.
“Receiving an award like this is unique,” Dimarco said, the trophy still fresh in his hands. “Last year I set the assist record, and this season I want to improve even further.”
His words matched his game: direct, ambitious, with no sign of easing off.
Team of the Season
Inter’s imprint on the Team of the Season underlined the scale of their year. The all-star XI blended Nerazzurri steel with talent from across the league: Mile Svilar in goal; Marco Palestra, Alessandro Bastoni and Manuel Akanji at the back; Scott McTominay in midfield alongside Luka Modric and Hakan Calhanoglu; Nico Paz supporting a front line of Lautaro Martinez, Donyell Malen and Dimarco himself.
The captain had his own moment under the lights. Lautaro Martinez also collected individual recognition, another nod from his peers to a relentless campaign in front of goal and in the dressing room.
“It is always an honour to receive votes from colleagues,” Lautaro said. “We have a great group and had a fantastic season.”
Behind the smiles, Dimarco pointed to the scar that shaped this version of Inter and of himself. His “breakthrough,” as he called it, traces back not to a trophy lift but to heartbreak on the biggest stage.
“My breakthrough? It all started after the lost Champions League final against PSG, which pushed us to give our absolute maximum,” he explained.
That defeat, still raw in the club’s recent memory, has become fuel. Dimarco has ridden that edge ever since, turning pain into productivity on the left flank.
Yet while the awards pile up, one issue remains unresolved. The wing-back did not hide his frustration when asked about his contract.
“Renewal? Unfortunately, we haven’t spoken about it,” he admitted. “I hoped it would happen after last season’s performance.”
On a night built to celebrate certainty – trophies, votes, rankings – his future at Inter still hangs without a signature. The club of the year has its player of the year, but no extension on the table.
Dimarco, though, refused to linger on boardroom silence. His gaze snapped back to the pitch and a familiar obstacle.
“Now I want to remain focused on the match against Napoli,” he said. “We haven’t been able to win against them for too long.”
Awards in the cabinet, questions in the office, and Napoli on the horizon. Inter’s season, and Dimarco’s rise, are still very much in motion.
