Inter Milan Closing In on Curtis Jones for £30m Deal

Inter Milan are edging towards a deal for Curtis Jones, with a fee of around 35m euros (£30m) now expected to unlock Liverpool’s resistance.

Liverpool knocked back a verbal offer of 25m euros (£21.7m) in June from the Italian champions, who have tracked the midfielder for months. At that stage, Liverpool made it clear they valued the 25-year-old, who is into the final year of his contract, at closer to £35m.

The gap has narrowed. The current understanding is that a package worth about £30m should be enough to see the clubs shake hands. Sources in Italy believe a verbal agreement is already in place, but both sides insist there are still details to iron out before anything is signed.

Liverpool are prepared to sell, but only at the right price. They want a deal that mirrors the £30m package Inter paid Tottenham for Djed Spence, and see Jones in a similar financial bracket.

Inter’s interest is not new. The Serie A side tried to prise Jones away in January with a loan offer that included an option to buy, only for Liverpool to reject the proposal and keep him at Anfield for the remainder of the season.

Jones has been a long-term presence in Liverpool’s first-team squad since his breakthrough under Jurgen Klopp in 2019, amassing 228 appearances in all competitions. Last season he featured 49 times, yet only 18 of those were Premier League starts as he struggled to nail down a regular place in Arne Slot’s midfield.

Now, with one year left on his deal and Inter pushing hard, Liverpool look ready to cash in. The next conversation between the clubs may decide whether Jones swaps Anfield for San Siro before the new season kicks into full gear.
