Inter Milan Signs Djed Spence from Tottenham on Five-Year Deal
Inter Milan have completed the signing of England full-back Djed Spence from Tottenham, sealing a five-year deal that underlines the Serie A champions’ intent to refresh their flanks with proven international quality.
The Italian giants are understood to be paying around 30m euros (£25.6m) for the 26-year-old, who becomes the second England player to walk into the San Siro dressing room this summer after John Stones arrived on a free following the expiry of his Manchester City contract.
A farewell written in advance
By the time Inter made the move official, Spence had already said his goodbyes.
Earlier on Saturday, he posted an emotional farewell to Tottenham supporters across his social media channels, effectively confirming that his time in north London was over.
“A special chapter comes to an end, It's been some journey, with plenty of memories, moments and experiences that I'll carry with me for forever, especially that night in Bilbao.
“Thanks to all the staff members who've helped me along the way, the players who've become family and most importantly thank you to the fans. Time for a new chapter now, but Spurs will always have a place in my heart.”
The words read like a full stop. Inter have now provided the next sentence.
From World Cup stage to San Siro
Spence heads to Italy on the back of a demanding and successful spell for club and country.
He featured in all eight of England’s games at the World Cup, trusted throughout the tournament as Thomas Tuchel’s side battled their way to a third-place finish. That exposure on the biggest stage only sharpened interest from Europe’s elite.
At club level, Spence was heavily used last season. He made 44 appearances for Spurs in all competitions during the 2025-26 campaign, a clear sign of his importance in Roberto de Zerbi’s first year in charge.
But the landscape at Tottenham has shifted quickly.
First-choice right-back Pedro Porro signed a new contract in June, locking down the role on Spence’s favoured side. On the opposite flank, Spurs moved decisively to bring in Andy Robertson from Liverpool, adding another high-profile full-back to the mix and squeezing Spence’s minutes from both directions.
De Zerbi had publicly stated in July that he wanted to convince Spence to stay. The club, though, has now accepted a sizeable fee, and the player has chosen a new challenge.
A successful Spurs stint, a familiar league
Spence leaves Tottenham with a solid legacy.
Signed from Middlesbrough in 2022 for an initial £12.5m, he went on to make 85 appearances for the north London club. The highlight came in Europe: he played his part in Spurs’ run to the 2024-25 Europa League title, a triumph that restored a measure of continental swagger to the club.
He also knows what awaits him in Italy. This will be his second spell in Serie A after a six-month loan at Genoa in 2024, a stint that offered a first taste of Italian football’s tactical demands and intense scrutiny of defenders.
Now he returns not as a loanee fighting for minutes, but as a major signing for the reigning champions, walking into one of Europe’s most storied stadiums with a long contract and a clear role.
