Inter Milan Target Chiesa as Luis Henrique Replacement
Inter Milan have already raided Liverpool once this summer. They may be about to do it again.
On Friday, the Serie A champions wrapped up a deal for Curtis Jones, landing the 25-year-old midfielder for a fee that could rise to £30 million. The Englishman arrives at San Siro as part of a refresh in the middle of the park, but Inter’s gaze has not left Merseyside just yet.
This time, the focus is on Federico Chiesa.
From title winner to fringe figure
Chiesa, now 28, joined Liverpool from Juventus in 2024 for around £12.5m, a move that was supposed to relaunch his career in England and give the Reds another high‑class wide option. On paper, it made sense. In reality, it has stuttered.
The Italy international is on a reported £150,000 per week, but that salary has not translated into status. He owns a Premier League winner’s medal, yet his contribution has largely come from the periphery. Starts have been rare, rhythm even rarer.
Chiesa failed to nail down a regular role and has not convinced new boss Andoni Iraola in pre-season. The message is clear enough: if Liverpool receive an acceptable offer, they are ready to listen.

That opening could come from Milan. Inter are preparing to sell Brazilian forward Luis Henrique to Roma in a deal worth around €25m, a move that would leave Cristian Chivu needing a replacement in the attacking unit.
Into that gap steps Chiesa.
Inter-focused journalist Fabio Bergomi has pointed to the Liverpool winger as a leading candidate to fill the void left by Luis Henrique’s expected departure.
“Chiesa could be the one who goes in place of Luis Henrique, if Luis Henrique accepts Roma, as seems to be the case,” Bergomi told his YouTube audience, before underlining that the Euro 2020 winner is viewed as a realistic target. In his view, the shortlist narrows quickly to one name: Chiesa.
For Inter, he would arrive as a squad player, an experienced option who can operate across the front line rather than a guaranteed starter. For Chiesa, it would be a shot at redemption in a league he knows well.
Injuries, doubts, and a possible exit
The winger’s Liverpool story never quite got going. Under Arne Slot last season he managed only two Premier League starts and failed to seize either opportunity. Cameos and stop‑start fitness issues did the rest.
His absence from training in the build-up to Liverpool’s season opener against Newcastle has only fuelled speculation over his future. But that no-show is understood to be down to another injury setback, not a move being imminent.
Even so, the sense lingers that his time at Anfield is drifting towards a natural conclusion. Liverpool have depth in wide areas, a manager with a clear idea of what he wants from his forwards, and a high-earning winger who sits outside the inner circle.
Inter, meanwhile, have already tested the waters on Merseyside and come away with Jones. The relationship is warm, the lines of communication open.
They have their midfielder. Now the question hangs in the air: will Chiesa follow, turning this summer into a Liverpool double for the Nerazzurri?
