Ismael Saibari Impresses on Bayern Munich Debut
Ismael Saibari needed barely a heartbeat to show Bayern Munich what they have bought.
Thrown on in the 71st minute of a pre-season friendly against RB Leipzig, the Moroccan midfielder wasted no time turning a routine summer run-out into a small statement. Bayern were already in control on their way to a 3-1 win, but Saibari still found a way to leave a clear fingerprint on the night.
Ten minutes after stepping onto the pitch in the famous red shirt for the first time, he split Leipzig open. A sharp move, a decisive pass, and Jamal Musiala did the rest for Bayern’s third goal in the 81st minute. One touch, one assist, one early hint that he belongs at this level.
Bayern’s official channels reacted instantly, flooding social media on Saturday with welcome messages and clips of the debutant’s contribution, underlining how quickly he had won attention inside the club. A friendly or not, those moments matter when you are the new face in a dressing room full of stars.
Musiala’s night ended shortly after his goal, the German international leaving the pitch in the 86th minute after suffering a sudden setback that cut short his outing. The focus, though, stayed on the fresh energy Saibari brought to the closing stages.
The 23-year-old arrived in Munich this summer from PSV Eindhoven, signing a long-term deal that ties him to the Bundesliga champions until 2031. Bayern moved for him after a standout 2026 World Cup with Morocco, where he scored three goals before injury cruelly ruled him out of the quarter-final defeat to France (2-0).
That same injury had delayed his integration in Bavaria. Saibari only rejoined full group training a few days before the Leipzig match, having spent weeks working individually to recover full fitness after the World Cup.
His cameo against Leipzig, then, was more than just a debut. It was a first glimpse of a player Bayern expect to grow into a key figure over the next decade — and a reminder that, even after a setback, Saibari’s instinct for the decisive moment has not gone anywhere.
