Jacob Devaney Aims for Trophies with Hibernian

Jacob Devaney has set his sights high at Hibernian, insisting he is in Edinburgh to win trophies after sealing a loan move from Manchester United.

The 19-year-old midfielder, who spent part of last season on loan at St Mirren, has joined Hibs on a deal that includes an option to buy, giving the Easter Road club the chance to make the switch permanent if it pays off.

Devaney arrives on the back of an eye-catching pre-season with United and sees Scotland as the stage to turn promise into something more tangible.

"I'm really excited to be here," he told HibsTV. "I've been in training the past two days and I've really enjoyed it - the feel of the club and the training ground."

The move is no shot in the dark. Devaney already sampled Scottish football and Easter Road last term, and that experience clearly left a mark.

"The size of the club [was what attracted me]. Playing here last season played a big part in me coming here and European competition as well - hopefully we qualify on Thursday night."

"I know the expectation of Hibs, of the fans. I want to push for titles, whether that's the league or cups, and obviously getting to Europe as well."

That is an ambitious message from a teenager, but Devaney is not hiding behind his age. He wants responsibility in David Gray’s side, not shelter.

"It was definitely the right decision for me to come up to Scotland," he said. "I suit the style of play and I see Hibs being the next step in my journey."

"I can dominate the ball and hopefully get us playing. I see myself as a bit of a leader so I'd like to think I can bring that side of my game to Hibs as well."

Hibs now have a young Manchester United midfielder talking openly about titles, cups and Europe. The question is simple: can he help drag the club to the level he is already demanding?
