Jadon Sancho is back on the Premier League radar – and this time, he costs nothing.
Two unnamed top-flight clubs have opened talks with the winger’s camp about bringing him back to England, with discussions described as ongoing as he weighs up his next move for the season ahead, according to TeamTalk.
Sancho, now 26, finds himself in a strange place for a player once tipped to dominate European football. A free agent a week after the transfer window shut, he can still sign outside the usual deadline, giving interested clubs a rare chance to move without the usual bidding war or negotiation with a parent club.
A flat spell at Aston Villa
His most recent audition did little to strengthen his hand.
Sancho spent the final year of his Manchester United deal on loan at Aston Villa in 2025/26, a move that was supposed to relaunch his Premier League career under Unai Emery. It never really caught fire. He struggled to secure a regular starting berth, finishing the league campaign with just nine Premier League starts and no goals across 23 appearances in all.
For a player whose reputation was built on end product, those numbers told their own story. Villa, even after sanctioning major attacking departures like Morgan Rogers and Ollie Watkins, chose not to push for a permanent deal. The decision felt inevitable by the end of the season.
So Sancho left United, left Villa, and entered the market with more questions than answers.
Dortmund, again, on the horizon
One possible answer, as ever, lies in Germany.
No transfer window involving Jadon Sancho seems complete without a link to Borussia Dortmund, and this summer has been no different. The Bundesliga club initially stepped back from the idea of another reunion, opting not to chase a deal early in the window.
Circumstances have changed.
A long-term injury to new signing Giannis Konstantelias has forced Dortmund to reassess their attacking options and look towards the free-agent pool. Sancho, with his history at the Westfalenstadion, sits at the top of that list of familiar names.
His numbers there remain impressive. Across two spells with Dortmund, he has produced 53 goals and 67 assists in 158 games – the kind of output that once made him one of Europe’s most coveted young forwards. In that black-and-yellow shirt, with space to run and freedom to create, he looked untouchable at times.
A return would offer him Champions League football this season and the comfort of an environment that knows how to get the best from him. Less scrutiny than the Premier League, less chaos than his time at Manchester United, but still a major stage.
