Jadon Sancho Weighs Move Abroad Amid Premier League Interest

Jadon Sancho is leaning towards a move abroad as he weighs up his next step, despite concrete interest from Premier League clubs.

Six weeks on from the expiry of his Manchester United contract, the 26-year-old winger is sifting through offers and plotting the restart of a career that has already taken in some of Europe’s biggest stages. He is currently a free agent, and for the first time since his breakthrough years, fully in control of his own future.

Sancho is understood to favour a return to the continent rather than stay in England, with Borussia Dortmund among the clubs monitoring his situation. The Bundesliga side know him better than most: across two spells in Germany he made 158 appearances for Dortmund, becoming one of Europe’s most sought-after young attackers and earning that £73m move to United in 2021.

The story since then has been far from straightforward. Last season he went on loan to Aston Villa, where he featured 39 times as Unai Emery’s side surged into the Champions League and lifted the Europa League. Sancho came off the bench late in the final against Freiburg, marking his third European final in as many seasons and underlining his knack for finding his way to the sharp end of major competitions.

He then spent the 2024-25 campaign at Chelsea, making 41 appearances in a spell designed to be permanent. The deal included an obligation to buy, but Chelsea chose another route, paying a £5m penalty to send him back to Manchester United instead of triggering the full transfer. It left Sancho back where he started, only for his contract to run down and the club to let him walk away on a free.

Now, with pre-season in full swing elsewhere, Sancho has been putting in the work away from the spotlight. He has been training with non-league side Flixton to keep his fitness levels high while his representatives talk to interested clubs and test the market.

Offers from England are on the table. The pull of the Premier League remains strong. But Sancho’s camp is understood to be looking closely at opportunities overseas, with the winger open to all serious proposals as he tries to find the right environment to relaunch a career that once looked destined for the very top.

The next contract will not just define his club. It will define whether Jadon Sancho becomes one of English football’s great what-ifs, or writes a very different second act.
