Jamal Musiala Addresses Health Concerns After Collapses

Jamal Musiala has revealed he is living with “treatable absence seizures” after collapsing on the pitch for the second time in four days, but insists there is no long-term threat to his health or his career.

The Bayern Munich winger went down just eight minutes after coming on as a substitute in a pre-season friendly against FC Heidenheim on Tuesday night. It was a jarring sight, all the more so because it echoed a similar collapse during Saturday’s friendly against RB Leipzig.

This time, Musiala chose to address the situation head-on.

In a detailed statement on Instagram, the 23-year-old moved quickly to calm growing concern among supporters.

“First things first, I am doing well. I am incredibly grateful for your messages and your support!”

he wrote, before explaining that doctors had diagnosed him with brief, temporary – but treatable – absence seizures caused by a neurological dysfunction.

Those episodes, he said, can trigger exactly the kind of collapses seen in the two recent games. They look frightening. For him, they have become something he has to manage day to day.

Musiala stressed he is under close medical supervision and described the care he is receiving as “excellent”, highlighting the role both FC Bayern and his personal support network are playing as he navigates the condition. He underlined that, according to the specialists treating him, “there is no further health risk involved”.

With clearance from neurologists, Musiala has chosen to continue playing, framing that decision as both personal and deliberate. He made clear he has “taken full responsibility” for it and believes that staying on the pitch, living as normally as possible and pursuing his passion for football, is what helps his recovery most.

The Germany international said he feels “very positive” and “on the right track”, and made it clear that his ambitions remain unchanged: he still wants to chase victories and titles with Bayern, fuelled by the backing of the club’s fans.

At the same time, Musiala drew a line around how much more he intends to share. He asked for understanding as he keeps the matter largely private, restricted to his closest circle, the club and the medical experts.

For Bayern and Germany, the hope is simple: that one of Europe’s most gifted young footballers can keep doing what he does best, with the right protection around him and the ball at his feet.
