Jérémy Doku has committed his peak years to Manchester City, signing a new five-year contract that runs until 2031, with an option for a further season.
The winger, who turned 24 this year, becomes the latest pillar of Pep Guardiola’s squad to be locked into a long-term deal after Phil Foden, Josko Gvardiol and Abdukodir Khusanov all agreed extensions earlier in the summer. City are not just refreshing a title-winning squad; they are ring-fencing it.
Doku’s first full campaign in Manchester underlined why. He made 47 appearances in all competitions last season and scored eight goals, his direct running and one‑v‑one threat adding a different edge to City’s attack. While one key piece stays, another storyline is unfolding in midfield.
Sources have told ESPN that City are in talks with Saudi Pro League side Al-Qadsiah over a deal for Tijjani Reijnders. No agreement has been reached yet, but discussions are ongoing over a package worth more than £50 million.
Reijnders only arrived at the Etihad from Milan last summer in a £46.5m move and, like Doku, featured 47 times across all competitions. His potential departure would mark a rapid turnaround for a player who has barely had time to settle into Guardiola’s intricate system.
The negotiations come at a moment of wider uncertainty in City’s midfield planning. Inside the club, there is a growing acceptance that Rodri is likely to move to Barcelona. The Spanish side have already seen a second bid of £55m rejected, with City valuing the midfielder — who has just one year left on his contract — at more than £60m.
City’s stance is clear: any midfielder who leaves before the deadline will be replaced. The recruitment department is already braced for movement. If Reijnders goes and the Rodri saga reaches its expected conclusion, the champions will be forced into a rapid rebuild at the heart of their side.
